St. Jürgen Convent (Rambin)
In 1334, Godeke von Wickede, a councillor of Stralsund, donated the striking residential building called the “Jubilee House” and the chapel on the outskirts of Rambin. His intention was to remove the lepers from Stralsund. Nuns cared for the dying in Rambin. When the disease lost its significance, the buildings became the Prövener Institute. Elderly people living alone bought into it; they got a small apartment with a garden for their own use. Parts of the common orchard still exist. The people here lived quite well until they died. The manager of the facility lived in half of the chapel. Around the St. Jürgen monastery, charitable people donated large tracts of land, the lease of which benefited the residents of the “monastery”. The housing association “Leben ins Kloster Rambin e.V.” currently looks after the facility.
